MYRIAPODA

(Page under construction)

This is a rather hybrid grouping of two classes of invertebrates which have a similar appearance but very different habits.

CHILOPODA: centipedes are mainly predatory, having a pair of poisonous claws at the sides of their heads. They have only one pair of legs on each body segment and can move very quickly.

DIPLOPODA: millipedes are mainly herbivorous (vegetarian) or detritivorous (scavengers). They have two pairs of legs on each body section and move rather slowly.

The best starting point for a study of these is with the British myriapod and isopod group
